TS Maybe at Dun Laoghaire Harbour

The TS SORLANDET, the oldest full-rigged ship in operation in the world, is visiting Dun Laoghaire Harbour this week. Built in Kristiansand, Norway, in 1927 as a training ship for young people in the merchant marine, the Sorlandet has a long and storied history. This remarkable vessel was the first Norwegian training ship to cross the Atlantic in 1933 and holds the distinction of being the first tall ship in the world to offer sail training for women in 1981. Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council are delighted to welcome the Sorlandet to Dún Laoghaire Harbour and to celebrate her history and longstanding presence in the Tall Ships community.

The Sorlandet also participated in the first international race for tall ships in 1956 and has been a fixture at port festivals in Europe and the USA. Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council is thrilled to welcome the Sorlandet to Dun Laoghaire Harbour.

The Sail Training Ship Sorlandet is owned and operated by a non-profit foundation with the goal of providing the public with a traditional tall ship experience. From charter cruises to participating in port festivals, the Sorlandet offers a range of opportunities for individuals to join as trainees, regardless of age, gender, or nationality. For a once-in-a-lifetime experience and the chance to learn new skills, including helmsmanship and sail maneuvers, you can join the Sorlandet on one of its summer cruises.
