To celebrate National Biodiversity Week 19th – 27th May 2018 DLR are hosting the following Plastic Free events:

Rock Pooling for Kids

May 20th 10am Sandycove Beach

Join us for this fun family event with OWLS children's nature club. Search the rock pools for the creatures that hide beneath! We will provide nets, buckets and charts to help us discover all sorts of life! How many different kinds of crabs, starfish, anemones can we find??

Supporting our pollinators by Peter Cuthbert

May 21st  7.30pm Royal Marine Hotel

Showing how native and cultivated plants can  be used to attract pollinating insects, and assist communities and achieve the aims of sustainability for tidy towns. Plant selection can be used in small, large gardens, open spaces, window boxes and hanging baskets.

Bioblitz for Kids on International Biodiversity Day

May 22nd 3.30pm Cabinteely Park

Join us for this event with OWLS nature club for all the family as we explore the park. Investigate what life we can find in the woodland and in the pond. We will be armed with nets, pots, charts and more to help us work out what creatures we have found. A fun afternoon of discovery.

Dalkey Tern Watch Begins

May 22nd 5- 8pm – 31st July (every Tues)

The terns have arrived at Dalkey and between 5pm & 8pm every Tuesday evening from 22nd May until 31st July 2018, Dalkey Island Tern Warden, Tara Adcock from Birdwatch Ireland, will be at the viewing area at Coliemore Harbour. All are very welcome.

Look after our Terns and the Heritage of Dalkey Island: Flying drones is prohibited over Dalkey Island and causes disturbance to nesting birds as well as the goats. Year of Bird

May 24th 7.30 pm Royal Marine Hotel

Join Eric Dempsey as he brings you on a photographic journey into the world of birds during the changing seasons sharing with you struggles and migrations many of our species make each year. This is a relaxed presentation using Eric's own original images and is suitable for all ages.

Batwalk along the Dodder

May 27th 9.30pm Car Park of the Dropping Well Pub, Milltown Road

Are you batty about wildlife? Then join the Dublin Bat Group on a walk along the Dodder to discover our local bats and their habits. Equipped with the latest bat detector technology, we hope to glimpse several of our native Bat species on this short looped walk. All age groups welcome.
