UPDATE: Water Quality has returned to normal

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council regularly monitor the water quality along the coast. Following preliminary receipt of the results from the samples taken on Monday the 4th  September 2017, we have taken the precautionary steps of placing a temporary prohibition notice, advising against swimming at Seapoint Harbour. The results showed a high level of E. Coli.

  • E. Coli (Escherichia coli) is a faecal coliform and indicator organism because it occurs in the intestinal flora of both animals and humans. Contamination allows the organism to spread to water environments where its presence indicates faecal contamination.

The cause of these high levels are not known and an investigation has commenced. The water at this location have been resampled and the results are expected back on Thursday 8th September 2017 . If the re-sample results are acceptable the temporary prohibition notice will be removed.
