Intro Text

The Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Public Participation Network (dlr PPN) was launched on Wednesday, 2nd December, by Mrs Sabina Higgins.  Held in the Maritime Museum, Dún Laoghaire, Mrs Higgins welcomed over 100 attendees and spoke of the importance of citizen engagement and public participation. She emphasised the significant difference local communities can make when participating and influencing local policy decisions and commended the obvious synergy between the Social Inclusion, Community and Voluntary and Environmental pillars.

An Cathaoirleach, Cllr Barry Saul emphasised the Council’s commitment to the dlr PPN in encouraging and enabling public participation. Dearbhla Lawson (Director of Economic, Community and Cultural Development in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council) commended the work of the dlr PPN over the past 12 months. She noted successes such as the development of a broad membership base (over 180 groups), electing 31 members to sit on Council committees and the holding of regular Plenary sessions.

The purpose of the dlr PPN is to give citizens and communities a way of participating in and influencing the policy decisions of the Local Authority in a structured way.  Through music, poetry and words, the evening celebrated the strong role the network has in shaping the vision for the wellbeing of citizens and communities in our County.
