Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is committed to reducing the numbers of collisions and casualties on the county's roads by promoting safer walk, cycling and driving through education and road safety campaigns. Casualty reduction interventions may also involve road and traffic engineering and traffic offence enforcement.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County adopted its third Road Safety Plan in 2015 and the 5-year Road Safety Plan provides a focus on road safety through the implementation of a number of actions under Education, Engineering, Enforcement and Evaluation. As part of the Plan, a Road Safety Working Together Group was set up consisting of the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, the Road Safety Authority, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, An Garda Síochána and the Dublin Fire Service. This was set up to to ensure a co-ordinated, collaborative and consistent approach to improving road safety for all road users.
