The Estate Management programme was launched as a pilot initiative in 1998, as part of the local government modernisation process, which acknowledged the need for citizen engagement in decisions that impacted their lives and those of their communities.
The programme has developed to cover 12 local authority areas across the County. The groups submit yearly service plans that includes works to be carried out in their areas, this is funded by the Council and carried out by the groups in partnership with Council departments.
Regular monthly meetings assist with planning and co-ordination and the fruits of respective efforts are displayed annually in Community Awards, Tidy Districts and Pride of Place.
The net result is sustainable maintenance and development of the physical and natural environment, which in turn impacts and enhances the quality of life for all residents, the stated goal of this fruitful partnership process.
