Intro Text

On January 1st 2017, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council established a Vacant Sites Register. This register identifies development sites within the County on housing and regeneration zoned lands that are suitable for housing but have not come forward to date for development.

In accordance with the Urban Regeneration and Housing Act 2015, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council are statutorily obliged to prepare a Vacant Site Register. In establishing a Vacant Site Register, the overarching objective is to identify those lands considered most suitable for housing provision in the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council area. In doing so, it will encourage active engagement between the Planning Authority and landowners facilitating and ensuring the delivery of housing in a sustainable and efficient manner.  It will also serve to enhance the character of an area where a site may have remained dormant, neglected and undeveloped for a number of years.

In line with national policy and legislation, in particular Rebuilding Ireland, An Action Plan for Housing and Homelessness and The Urban Regeneration and Housing Act 2015, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has commenced a comprehensive review of all potential vacant sites within the County and will be engaging with the relevant landowners of these sites in due course.
