"TogetHER in Politics" - Conference promoting Gender Equality and Diversity in Local Government

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council are proud to announce our upcoming conference promoting gender equality and diversity in Local Government at the Royal Marine Hotel in Dún Laoghaire on Saturday, 20th May, 2023 from 11am to 3pm.

The event aims to empower women to join Local Government and will feature keynote speaker Dr. Valesca Lima, Assistant Professor of Political Science at the School of Law and Government, DCU, Claire McGing, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Manager, IADT, Paula Fagan, CEO LGBT Ireland, and many more high-profile professionals.

As stated by Councillor Mary Hanafin, Cathaoirleach, Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council:
"A 50/50 gender balance was elected in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown in the last local election, we are anxious to continue this trend and to ensure more diverse representation. This will lead to better policy making decisions for our citizens."

The conference will focus on the experiences of migrant candidates in local elections in Ireland, promoting women's equality in Irish politics, and the importance of equality and diversity in Local Government for policy making and representation. The event encourages women from all backgrounds to attend and learn about the positive impact they can make on their community by getting involved.
