Women's Rugby World Cup hits dlr

Following an inspirational and record-breaking event in France in 2014, the stage is set for Ireland to deliver what will be a unique and thrilling tournament. The four-week tournament will be hosted locally in dlr and in Belfast, with defending champions England hoping to add to their two titles. Disappointingly Ireland will be without its inspirational captain Niamh Briggs, a participant of two previous tournaments, however, the squad has had international success with victory in the 2013 Women’s Six Nations Championship, taking the title with a grand slam. There has been huge interest in the event at home and abroad, with extra tickets having been released due to exceptional demand. 

 

There are three pools A, B and C in the tournament with Ireland drawn in a very competitive Pool C alongside Australia, France and Japan. It’s a tough route to the knockout stages in Belfast but Team Ireland are ready for the challenge, with many months of training and preparation behind them. It all kicks off with the first round of pool matches taking place across two pitches in University College Dublin (UCD Bowl and Billings Park), with defending champions England getting the tournament underway in the UCD Bowl at 2pm on Wednesday 9 August, when they meet Pool B rivals Spain. Four time winners New Zealand clash with Wales in the opening game of Pool A at 2:45pm in Billings Park. Hosts Ireland get Pool C underway that evening when they welcome Australia to the UCD Bowl at 7pm in what is sure to be a fantastic occasion. The first day of competition comes to a close when France take on Japan in Billings Park at 7:45pm. And that’s just the first day’s action! All of the pool games will be played right here at home in dlr at the UCD complex, making getting to the matches easy for dlr locals. The winners of each group will then progress to the Semi-Finals, which take place in Kingspan Stadium, Belfast, the home of Ulster Rugby, on Tuesday 22 August, with all eyes on the final on Saturday 26 August. There will also be ranking play-off games taking place in Queen’s University over the same dates, so plenty of opportunity to catch a game or three.

 

Day tickets for each of the three pool days start at just €5 for school children and €10 for adults, per day, for Billings

Family tickets (two adults and two children) start from just €25 for Billings Park and €40 for the UCD Bowl, per day. Tickets are moving fast, with organisers World Rugby urging those wanting to experience the unique excitement of a World Cup, with the chance to see the world’s top female rugby players in action, to snap up tickets before it’s too late!
