dlr First Frames Scheme - Short Film Awards Announced
The short films awarded funding under the dlr First Frames Scheme 2022/23 are Nay Day and Conveyance.
In Nay Day a teenage Tik-Toker tells the story of her hectic life and aspirations while walking her dog against the backdrop of a menacing industrial landscape. It is directed by Derek Ugochukwu, a Dublin-based writer/director who writes modern-day fiction of the Black-Irish community, and produced Eamon Hughes, who graduated from the National Film and Television School, IADT, in 2020. Conveyance follows Brian and Suzanne as they finally find their dream home after years of searching. When they realise they are sharing the space with a malevolent force, how much are they willing to put up with to stay there? Writer/director Gemma Creagh is a writer, filmmaker and journalist, and producer Maeve McGrath is a producer and festival programmer.
The Scheme is fully funded by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council’s Arts Office and Economic Development Unit and managed by IADT. Mentoring support and additional equipment and facilities is provided by the National Film School, IADT; the collaboration between the two institutions supports emerging filmmakers at a crucial stage of their careers.
The films are due for completion in Autumn 2023.
