About Us
Since 1994 Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has taken great pride in developing and supporting the Arts. The Council views the arts as an important service that contributes to the quality of life for those who live in, work in and visit the County. We are extremely proud of our reputation as a supportive home for the arts and believe in their intrinsic value and the vital contribution that they make to the wellbeing and quality of life of the County.
Over the last 30 years the Council’s Arts Office has commissioned and produced an exciting range of festivals, exhibitions, artist residencies, schools projects, arts and health initiatives and public art programmes in order to grow and sustain local arts development.
We are proud to provide an annual subvention to support the work of the Pavilion Theatre and dlr Mill Theatre and facilitate individual artists and arts organisations through the provision of dlr annual Arts grants
We commission the Council’s Public Art Programme and care for the County Art Collection of over 130 artworks and public sculptures.
In partnership with our dlr Library Service colleagues we curate dlr LexIcon’s cultural programme which includes the County’s Municipal Gallery.
We strive to support the creation of new art work through our residency programme and the provision of artists making places through Mart Studios at the Grainstore and the artists’ studios at Dún Laoghaire Baths.
We manage one of the longest running artists in schools schemes in the country in partnership with Blackrock Education Centre, supporting the cultural education of primary school children since 1994. We are also proud of our relationship with the HSE mid-Leinster. Working together we have developed new ways of working in the field of Arts and Health by investing in research based commissions and programming for older people and people with disabilities in particular.
