Intro Text

Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council held a special Ceremony last night (29th November) to recognise and celebrate the valuable work of our community groups and volunteers across the County. The Community & Volunteer Awards 2018, now running for 23 years, recognise and honour the wealth of people and projects that contribute to the very fabric of life in the county.

This year 51 Community Groups and 25 Volunteers were formally recognised for their valuable contributions to community life in dlr. Awards were made to volunteers to recognise and celebrate their positive contributions to community life, as well as to Community Groups right across the County, who support and promote a wealth of community development activities including child and youth development, age friendly, social inclusion, arts and culture, health and wellbeing and civic pride.

This year, An Cathaoirleach of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Cllr Ossian Smyth presented the Overall Award to the Dalkey Tidy Towns Committee, who’s excellent work enhances the appearance of the town and promotes sustainable living.

Speaking on the night, Cllr Smyth commended all of the groups represented at the awards said:

These awards help to celebrate the excellent work achieved by our volunteers and groups of committed people working together, striving to make a difference in their respective communities. We are fortunate to have such talented and dedicated people across the County who give their time and energy to enhance the quality of life for our communities. The range of community activities is great and provides new opportunities for people to get involved in their Communities, learning new skills, meeting new people, and above all having fun while doing it. ‘
