Date
Friday, October 4, 2019
Location
dlr County
Intro Text

Open House Dublin 2019, a free annual celebration of Dublin’s best architecture will take place on the weekend of 11-13 October. It is a simple but powerful idea: showcasing outstanding architecture for everyone to experience. Buildings that aren’t usually accessible to the public and buildings of architectural merit open their doors for one weekend, with tours provided by expert guides.  It is a collective campaign to enhance the public’s understanding of the creative, social and historical impact of architecture.

Through an extensive programme of talks, tours, workshops and exhibitions, Open House Dublin aims to highlight the buildings of Dublin that have altered our vision of the County over time, shaped how we live now and inspire new ways of living.  As part of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council’s partnership with the IAF’s architecture festival Open House Dublin, there is a range of building tours and activities mostly taking place on Sunday 13th October for the 2019 theme 'City in Motion'.

Reflecting dlr’s motto ‘Ó Chuan go Sliabh’ (from the mountains to the sea) activities range from the Fernhill Mountain Walk to boat tours at the Royal St George Yacht Club.

dlr energy team is hosting a free talk about creative solutions to achieving a sustainable home. This practical seminar will take place on Sunday afternoon 13th October in the dlr LexIcon, Dún Laoghaire.

Dún Laoghaire based activities include guided building tours of the Commissioners of Irish Lights, dlr LexIcon and the new Council Chamber in County Hall and private Passive Houses including Ashdown in Shankill and Tierney Haines Architects’ home in Blackrock. Building tours in the west of the county include Airfield Estate, Fernhill Gardens, Changing Places bathroom in Marlay Courtyard, Rosemount Court, Dundrum and UCD’s Confucius Institute and private houses include the Green House and Victoria Terrace in Dundrum.
