This specially selected exhibition features work from twelve Irish established and emerging craftspeople. Taking Time: An Appreciation of Irish Craft marks the culmination of over six months of work by a group of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown based Men’s Shed members - Pat Daly, Peter Fagan, John Fitzgerald, Joseph MacDonough and John O'Doherty - in collaboration with curator Orlaith Ross. The result is a stunning exhibition of contemporary craft. There's lots of events going on to conincide with the exhibition.
The group took part in a range of workshops and demonstrations, and looked to Ireland’s incredible craft heritage which has inspired new inventive craft making. The exhibition includes work by basketmaker Joe Hogan, ceramicist Kate O’Kelly, glass artist Róisín de Buitléar, furniture maker Conor Kelly (SNUG), and woodworker Chaïm Factor, along with textile artists Liz Nilsson and Bernadette Madden. The celebration of traditional methods of making as seen in the work of letterpress printer Dave Darcy is included too. Capturing nature is explored in various ways and different materials by metalwork artist Jane Murtagh, sculptor Sasha Sykes, basket weaver Hanna Van Aelst and glass artist Emma Bourke.
