The dlr frame introduces a new element that prompts passers-by to stop, rest, interact and take a closer look at an object or view with fresh eyes. This frame in Rathmichael Wood is on the marked walking trails of the Dublin Mountains Way and Shankill to Scalp Loop. The latter is a moderate 12km walking trail loop that takes 3-4 hours from Shankill Village to the stunning Scalp viewpoint.
The frames are made by Dublin based company BA Steel Fabrications of corten steel sheets with considered overlapping and folding to form a frame. The maintenance-free material has a unique aesthetic of colour and texture complementary to its surroundings.
The artwork supports key objectives of dlr’s Culture and Creativity Strategy 2018-2022 of Creative Placemaking and Awareness Raising.
The series of 'framed views' consists of three distinct versions for locations that will take one's breath away. The first is an age-friendly bench frame designed for panoramic views, expansive sites or meeting points. The second will be a standing frame designed to have presence and draw viewers to the frame, encouraging exploration and curiosity about the view. The third is a signpost frame suitable for tight urban sites or to highlight specific objects of interest. Subsequent frames will be installed later this year.
