Green Flag Status awarded to 4 dlr Parks for third year in a row!
Green Flags will be flying once again across Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown this Summer as the Council celebrates recognition of four of it's flagship parks, some of the finest in the country.
The international accredited award for park excellence were announced today at a national awards ceremony in Maynooth University. Marlay Park, Cabinteely Park, Blackcork Park and Peoples Park were all awarded Green Flags, retaining the status for all four parks since 2017.
A Green Flag Award provides national recognition for the hard work and dedication of the Council’s Park staff who have helped to maintain the high standards demanded by such an award. It is a sign of how well-managed, clean and safe our Parks are. With many people increasingly relying on their local parks to enjoy nature, exercise, relax and have fun, it is clear that accessible, high quality, biodiverse green space in our communities has never been more important.
The Green Flag Awards are judged every year by a peer jury of green space experts, visiting applicant sites and assess them against eight strict criteria, including horticultural standards, cleanliness, sustainability, and community involvement.
Speaking of the awards, An Cathaoirleach Cllr Shay Brennan commented"I am absolutely delighted to hear that four of our parks were awarded Green Flag status, but I am also not surprised. Our parks, each with their own individual characteristics, are hugely popular and managed to the highest standard. The awards are just reward for the passion, commitment and forward thinking nature that our Council staff bring to our Parks. As residents of the area we should be rightly proud of this achievement."
