BoxUp Brings Shared Sports Equipment to Ballyogan
The Samuel Beckett Civic Campus is the latest location to have BoxUp installed in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.
BoxUp is an outdoor locker system that allows members of the public to borrow sports/leisure equipment for up to three hours of use. The unit has 6 different types of equipment to choose from to suit all needs and abilities including hurling, basketball, football, spikeball, frisbee, and skipping ropes. Users gain access to the equipment through a dedicated app where they can set up an account for free, all that is required is a form of identification.
Councillor Jim O Leary, An Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council said:
“BoxUp offers a dynamic and innovative way to enhance physical activity in Ballyogan and the surrounding area. It empowers everyone in the community, regardless of age or ability, to fully utilise our parks and public spaces. It’s inspiring to witness projects like these being implemented to tackle the barriers that prevent people from living a healthy and active lifestyle.”
Frank Curran, Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating:
“We are excited to be part of this initiative with BoxUp, now installed in Samuel Beckett Civic Campus. We look forward to witnessing the positive impact this simple, yet effective idea will have on the community of Ballyogan, from promoting health and physical activity to encouraging social interaction among visitors to the area.”
This BoxUp unit is co-funded through Ballyogan Sports Hub Community Fund and Dormant Account Grants and is fully supported by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, dlr Sports Partnership and Active Cities Dublin.
More information on the BoxUp initiative is available on the dlr Sports Partnership website.
