Cllr Jim O’Leary, Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, has formally recognised the outstanding contributions of individuals across the county at the annual Cathaoirleach’s Awards ceremony held this week in County Hall, Dún Laoghaire. The event highlighted the council's continued commitment to honour those who go above and beyond to improve their communities.

The 2025 awards celebrated a diverse group of volunteers and community advocates working across various sectors, including support for older people, first response services, the promotion of the Irish language, and local enterprise amongst other. These individuals have shown exemplary dedication and commitment to improving the lives of others in their community.

Speaking at the ceremony, Cllr Jim O’Leary, Cathaoirleach, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council said:

“These awards shine a light on the exceptional efforts of individuals who dedicate their time, energy, and expertise to bettering their communities. Their commitment enriches the lives of so many across Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, and we are deeply grateful for their service.”

The 2025 Cathaoirleach’s Awards reflect the wide spectrum of civic and community engagement throughout the county. From advocacy for older citizens to cultural promotion and support for migrant integration, the awardees represent the best of what community spirit can achieve.

Frank Curran, Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, also acknowledged the significance of community involvement:

“These awards recognise not only the incredible work of volunteers and leaders, but also the spirit of partnership between our communities and the Council. Together, we continue to build a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive place to live and work.”

The 2025 Cathaoirleach’s Award recipients are:

  • Darren Chambers – Dundrum Business Association & Dundrum Town Team
  • Ann Forde – Advocate in Ballinteer including Broadford Residents Association
  • Tom Feeney – Blackrock Business Association
  • Jim O'Dea – Glór Cheantar Naithí 
  • Sheila Moore – Foxrock Area Community & Enterprise
  • Kieran Brown – Volunteerism with a wide range of first responders
  • Joe Varley – Maritime Museum
  • Leah Leiva – Kilcross Playground
  • Christina Lynam – Cara Malawi Overseas Charity 
  • Orli Degani – Advocacy within the migrant community
  • Ailish Hession – Older People’s Council
  • Nick Armstrong – Imagine Dundrum
  • Mags Kenny –Older People’s Council
