Overview

The Cabinteely Greenway involves the creation of a safe, active travel community greenway. This will form part of the dlr Cycle Network, to connect Cornelscourt and Cherrywood. Its goals include:

  • Improving connectivity,
  • Safe route to schools,
  • Reducing car reliance within a 5km area,
  • Supporting climate action targets,
  • Enhancing accessibility to public transport, and
  • Improving sustainability and access to nature.

Upgrade existing Green Space to improve Connectivity and Active Lifestyles

The new route will focus on safety and convenience, connecting Cornelscourt and Cherrywood. This route isn't just for getting from point A to B – it can be a nature stroll or a safe, hassle-free school run with your kids. The new cycle paths will grant you an enjoyable bike ride, instead of the car journey and morning traffic.

The route will include features designed to boost your well-being and enhance your connection with nature. These features and designs will be co-created with the local community.

Taking steps towards sustainable environmental efforts and decreased carbon footprint

Irish Policy encourages a shift away from private cars to public transport and other active modes of transport. This national policy aims to set out a framework to achieve a 51% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030. The greenway will reduce reliance on vehicular journeys by providing safe, sustainable, walking, wheeling (people who utilise wheeled mobility aids), and cycling alternatives.
