To further develop and implement junction upgrading on the N11 Stillorgan Road as identified in the N11 Junctions Safety Review.
N31 Brewery Road Safety Improvement Scheme ( at junction St. Brigid's Church Road)
Status - Completed
A detailed design was prepared in 2017 which included an advertised public consultation process. On completion of detailed design, the NTA requested that the scope of the proposed upgrade works exclude the proposed works to the N11 junction and to restrict the works to the Brewery Road / St Brigid’s Church Road junction due to potential scheme overlap with the proposed Bus Connects proposal for the N11. A revised design was completed in 2022 in accordance with the mandatory Design Manual for Urban Roads and Streets (DMURS 2019)
Junction tightening at St Brigid’s Church Road.
This will result in a narrower junction mouth by elimination of the existing splitter island, reduced lane width for the approach to the Stop line and tighter corner radii, all in compliance with DMURS. The resultant design will improve safety for drivers and vulnerable road users such as cyclists; there will be less exposure to conflict for on-road cyclists crossing of the mouth of the junction
New right turn lane from Brewery Road onto St Brigid’s Church Road.
This right turn lane will be protected by a splitter island which also serves as a pedestrian refuge. The splitter island also provide a traffic calming effect by reducing the width of the carriageway and encourages proper lane discipline for drivers.
The resultant design improves safety for drivers and vulnerable road users such as cyclists; there will be less exposure to conflict for on-road cyclists crossing of the mouth of the junction.
See attached ‘General Arrangement Drawing’ showing the extent of the works.
Works commenced on 20 March 2023 and were completed in June 2023.
