Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council operates and maintains a number of cemeteries within its administrative area. Many of these cemeteries are historic closed grounds. Dean's Grange and Shanganagh are the two main operational cemeteries in the County. Both have restrictions on the pre-purchase of burial plots i.e. graves for coffin burials are not available for purchase in advance of a death. Cremation Plots in Shanganagh Cemetery and Niches in the Columbarium Wall in Dean's Grange Cemetery can be bought in advance.

Unfortunately, there are no records available for the closed burial grounds. The Council holds records for Dean’s Grange, Shanganagh and Kilgobbin cemeteries in the Dean's Grange Cemetery Office. The records for Dean’s Grange and Shanganagh cemeteries records are also available online https://dlrcc.discovereverafter.com/.
Grave Purchase
Graves are available for purchase in Shanganagh and Deansgrange Cemeteries at time of death through a Funeral Director. Plots are selected by the Council in accordance with the next available in line.
Shanganagh Cemetery is a relatively new cemetery and there is good capacity for burials. Plots are available in St. Helens section of Shanganagh at a cost of €2,900 each at time of death through a Funeral Director.
Deansgrange Cemetery has been a burial ground since 1865 and is at capacity. There are therefore, only a limited number of plots available in “The Garden” at a cost of €16,000.
There are two Columbarium Walls in Dean's Grange Cemetery, each face of each wall contains 90 niches, each of which is capable of holding 2 medium size casket of cremated remains. The cost to purchase a niche in the wall is €2,000.00 + V.A.T. @ 13.5% = €2,270.00
