A Woman Walks Alone at Night, With a Camera – a photographic series by Ruby Wallis
We are delighted to showcase a series of photographs by artist Ruby Wallis. This is part of the “Library Interventions” project. This project brings visual art and the ideas behind it to the library, with a list of books that aim to expand our thinking about the artwork.
About the Artwork
This work taken from the series of photographs: A Woman Walks Alone At Night, With a Camera (ongoing). The project centres around the experience of walking at night as a woman. The artist walks through urban spaces as an imaginative explorer wandering the city according to her desire in order to reclaim it. Working with photography allows her to visualise her encounter with the non-human world of plant life and the immersive nocturnal world she encounters. She used the snapshot and flash in these images, as a reflection on the need to move quickly for safety.
