Councillors receive a representational payment as set out in Circular LG 06 2020 (Adjustments to elected members’ representational payment in connection with the Public Service Pay and Pensions Act 2017).
Councillors also receive a monthly allowance for attendance at Monthly, Annual, SPC, Budget, Organisation Procedure & Protocol, Deputations and Special Meetings as part of their representational role. This allowance is subject to the rates and rules of the Annual Expenses Allowance, as set out under Local Government (Expenses of Local Authority Members) Regulations 2014 (S.I. No. 236 of 2014)(as amended). Please see LG 04/2019 {Domestic Subsistence Allowance for Elected members The directions should be read in conjunction with Section 142 (as amended) of the Local Government Act 2001 generally with respect to expenses, and with Section 143 with respect to any allowances for reasonable expenses set by municipal district members for the Cathaoirleach of the municipal district, and the fore-mentioned Regulations. They replace all previous directions regarding expenses allowances of elected members and other relevant persons.

Payment of the Travel & Subsistence is made subject to Councillors attendance rate quota of 80% of all meetings which the Councillors is due to attend.
Payment of the Annual Allowance is made subject to Councillors attendance ratequota of 50% of all meetings which the Councillor is due attend.
