Summer camps for Neurodivergent Children
Summer camps for neuro divergent children this July
dlr Libraries are delighted to partner with both Active Kids Academy & Laura Steerman Art to bring you an exciting 2 hr summer camp in dlr Lexicon specifically for neurodivergent children.
Active Kids & Laura Steerman Art have combined their talents to provide a camp suitable for all children with neuro divergence. The camp will focus on fun and skill development through art, games, activities and inclusion.
Our aim is to work on skills such as fine & gross motor skills, art, communication, imagination, creativity, hand eye coordination, balance, agility and lots more.
All of this and more will be packed into our camp where every child is encouraged to be themselves, explore and have fun.
Active Kids Academy have been providing camps & classes for children with additional needs for years. They have a huge amount of experience, understanding and knowledge which enables them to provide camps, activities and games which are inclusive and specific to needs.
Artist Laura Steerman is a solicitor turned painter and founder of www.QuaintBabyArt.com with the goal to create colourful artworks accessible to all by celebrating diversity, family journeys and creativity. Laura works on commissioned paintings and provides innovative art workshops for children by setting up ‘invitation to create stations’ to gently guide and encourage creativity, to connect and empower kids, inspire ideas and support their exploration of colour, texture and imagination.
Lisa & Laura first worked together on a camp for Autistic children during 2022. By combining their skills, they quickly realised how much the children benefited. Working together they are able to ensure that they have a huge variety of activities and that every child’s needs are catered for.
Laura will set up invitation to create art stations so that kids can explore and create colourful textured artwork independently and suitable to the child’s desires and abilities. It will be interactive, adaptable art that kids are free to get messy, colourful and enjoy a free play creative experience which can also be tailored to each of their interests. We will paint a giant box house, explore foam paint or if kids prefer to not touch paint - there are loads of options such as a salt art craft where we paint with a dropper (also helping develop the pincer grip!) Old clothes are reccommended and aprons can be provided to kids who are comfortable to wear them.
Activity part of camp will have obstacle courses, bouncy castle, parachute fun, free play, building and lots more. There will be something for every child to enjoy and we will also have a sensory area for the children. Games & activities will be fun based and incorporate lots of activities to help develop gross & fine motor skills, communication skills, imagination play and many more.
Our aim is to provide a fun, inclusive environment where children can work & play at their own pace, in a manner that suits their needs. Whilst structured activities will be offered, children are free to engage at a comfortable level for them.
