Autumn/Winter 2022: Local Radicles
As the final theme for 2022, the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown arts office engagement programme selected the theme of Local Radicles. The theme will run alongside Dianne Whyte’s exhibition at the Lexicon Gallery, Altered Ground, which opened in September.
A Radicle is the basic root of a plant or an organism, a first connection to a place, a structure, a link to a nourishing source. As part of the Local Radicles theme, we will invite artists to reflect on the meaning of local roots, explore subcultures, and engage with stories of the prominent characters, places, and natural attributes of the county. The artists responded with inspiring takes on communities and cultures as the roots our society grows from, some beautiful and thoughtful work coming up online and in-person.
We will continue our online themed projects for this final quarter, with projects that connect you, our online audience, with Lexicon’s physical spaces. You’re always welcome.
The illustration commission to accompany this theme was created by Klo Wi (Chloe Winders), a Dublin-based muralist and illustrator. The illustration will feature on our social media channels and will invite you in to a street-art style painting workshop with the artist in our project room.
Also continuing is our hashtag #dlrLens. During 2022 we’re working with artists to create a weekly response to our theme. Lookout for Nasrin Golden’s photographic work responding to the idea of Local Radicles and feeling welcome within yourself on our social media channels, tagged with #dlrLens and #dlrLens_ Local Radicles. Feel free to join in, post your own creations, and tag them. This quarter the artist will also host a photography workshop at Lexicon, following up on techniques and processes of her creative practice.

Nasrin Golden is an Iranian/Irish Visual Artist who attempts to convey the healing and reconciliation of conflict inherent to the human condition. As a migrant living in Ireland since 2012, her work transcends cultural barriers as she aims to convey the commonalities underlying shared lived experiences. Through different mediums (photography, painting, video art) Nasrin’s work frequently contrasts opposites through variations of light and colour. She frequently explores women’s issues, especially repressed femininity, notions of self and its manifestations.
Nasrin was awarded Summer School residency with ‘Create’ in Ireland, June 2019. She is invited to participate in the Women Artists 2nd International Biennial of Macau 2020. Her work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions around the world including: Tehran, Kuala Lumpur, Dublin, Vancouver and Macua.
She holds an M.A. in Visual Arts, and a B.A. in Photography.

Klo Wi is a muralist and illustrator, based in Dublin. Her work explores shape and the human form through various mediums, from digital illustration to murals and street art.

The 2022 programme and themes are organised by dlr Arts LexIcon’s Programme Co-ordinator, Moran Been-noon. Moran is a Dublin-based independent curator and visual artist. As a curator she is primarily interested in multi-platform group exhibitions. Her current focus is on
feminist artwork created on the spectrum between contemporary art practice, and traditionally-feminine creative crafts. Moran is also a co-founder of angelica.network, an Ireland-wide network which amplifies the voices of artists based on the island of Ireland who self-identify as women or minority genders, from underrepresented cultural or ethnic backgrounds.
