Professional Development Opportunity for Artists: Dementia Inclusive Arts Practice
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council (DLR) Arts Office is seeking expressions of interest from professional artists, who have experience working with people living with dementia through their practice, to participate in a peer learning session. This will take place on Tuesday 7 November 2023 from 10am to 1pm in dlr LexIcon, Dún Laoghaire. This is open to artists working in any artform.
This opportunity is funded by Creative Ireland’s Creativity in Older Age Scheme 2023 and supported by DLR Arts Office.
About this Opportunity
DLR Arts Office has invited Professor Ian Robertson to chair this targeted peer learning session to support artists who work with people living with dementia, and help build their capacity. This will be a three-hour session, including a coffee break, and will be an opportunity for artists to share and question their dementia inclusive arts practice with each other. We aim to create a dynamic session for all involved. We will pay a fee of €120 to each selected artist; there will be a maximum of 15 places offered.
Background
Since 2013 we have been creating and supporting dementia inclusive arts practice. We have worked with local service providers, national services, artists and people living with dementia to develop this area of practice. This is a cross artform programme based in the community, in residential and day service settings.
We have had requests from artists for opportunities for peer learning and networking. This opportunity has been created specifically to response to these requests. We have invited Professor Ian Robertson to chair this session.
Professor Robertson is Co-Director of the Global Brain Health Institute and a Member of Academia Europaea. A trained clinical psychologist as well as a neuroscientist, he is widely known internationally for his research on attention and the human brain. His popular writing has included five books aimed at the general reader: Mind Sculpture (2000), The Mind’s Eye (2003), Stay Sharp (2005), The Winner Effect (2012) and The Stress Test (2016), all of which have been widely translated (www.ianrobertson.org). His book How Confidence Works was published by Penguin/Transworld in 2021.
