As one of the artists at the newly opened Dún Laoghaire Baths, visual artist Mary Burke will be undertaking a public art commission funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage under Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council’s Public Art Programme. The theme for this commission is HOME and Mary is seeking participants to allow her to make paintings of their homes.
Our homes are extensions of ourselves and reflect how we live our lives. We are all temporary custodians of our homes and over time houses are altered and reimagined. Home is a sanctuary a place to feel safe, a place to express ourselves.
Our county is diverse as is our housing. Old and new, large, or small, these homes are repositories of hopes, dreams, memories, ambitions, of lives being lived. These places are worth celebrating. This project is an attempt to capture slices of life as lived in the country at this moment in time. When completed the paintings will be gifted to the participants together with a book documenting the project.
Eight homes will be selected. Mary will be looking to select a variety of houses and apartments (large, small, old, and new, rented or privately owned). Selection will be based on house type and location.
