dlr Comhairle na nÓg
Comhairle na nÓg are youth councils in the 31 local authorities of the country directly involving children and young people in local and national services and policies.
Comhairle na nÓg child and youth councils operate in each of the 31 Local Authority areas across Ireland. Funded and managed by the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (DCEDIY), the councils enable young people aged 12-17 to exercise their right in influencing decision-makers on the topics most important to them.
When developing new policies, improving services, or making planning decisions that will impact young people in their communities, local and national agencies can consult with Comhairle na nÓg child and youth councils to get the opinions and inputs of those same young people.
This is massively beneficial when the decisions relate to issues important to them such as mental health awareness or facilities for young people. Consultations can take the form of face-to-face meetings with young Comhairle members, focus groups, surveys, and more. Comhairle na nÓg is coordinated by Foróige who work closely with dlr County Council to facilitate Comhairle.

dlr Comhairle na nÓg Annual Youth Conference 2024
Each year Comhairle na nÓg hold a Youth Conference (Comhairle na nÓg AGM) to showcase all the hard work done throughout the year with the hope of engaging new Comhairle na nÓg members. Last year young people attending the AGM collectively decided for the working topic for the year to be School Stress. As seen above, Bridging the Gap event was held by Comhairle na nÓg to address School Stress across Dún Laoghaire Rathdown.
Our Comhairle na nÓg Annual Youth Conference 2024 took place on November 6th. This year's Annual Youth Conference was opened by Therese Langan, Director of Community and Cultural Development. 100 enthusiastic young people from 27 schools across Dún Laoghaire Rathdown gathered together to have their voices heard through consultations on the issues affecting youth. This included primary schools as well as secondary schools in dlr. Youth Spaces/ Facilities was the the predominant topic, which was democratically chosen as the topic for 2025.
