Migration and Ireland

Every year, people move to Ireland to live, work and study, and others leave Ireland to live in other countries. Some people migrating to Ireland are Irish people returning home, some are from the EU and UK, and some are from outside of the EU.

Migration is normal and increasing globally . Ireland is benefitting from migration, because of our ageing population and our need for skilled workers.

Challenging anti-Muslim hatred in Ireland

Welcome to the Sustainable Alliances Against Anti-Muslim Hatred (SALAAM) project.

SALAAM is a European Commission funded project based in the University of Limerick, working in partnership with civil society organisations Doras, the Immigrant Council of Ireland and the Irish Network Against Racism and Local Authorities including dlr County Council.

Since it commenced in March of 2022, the overall focus of the SALAAM project has been to create resources designed to challenge anti-Muslim hatred in Ireland. These include the development of outputs such as anti-racism training; resources to support those who have experienced racism; and public awareness campaigns such as this.

Community Recognition Fund 2024

The Community Recognition Fund was introduced in 2023 by the Department of Community & Rural Development (DRCD) to recognise the huge efforts made by communities in welcoming and supporting people coming to Ireland. Based on the continued impacts on communities throughout the country and the need to support these communities in welcoming new arrivals where large numbers of citizens from other countries are currently living, a further €50 million is being provided under the Community Recognition Fund 2024.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown (dlr) County Council has been allocated €765,487 by the DRCD to deliver projects over 2025 and 2026, with funding being allocated - read more HERE
