Lioba Petrie is the first dlr Musician in Residence for 2022. She collaborated with Abigail Smith over several weeks in May and June. Together they developed music which is the bringing together of ideas, seeds of musical thought and takes inspiration from the surrounding areas and their lives as mothers and musicians living in County Dublin. They presented an informal performance of some of this new work, Fragments, in the Studio, dlr LexIcon, on 19 June, and will perform in dlr LexIcon again as part of Culture Night in September.
The dlr Musician in Residence Scheme is funded by the Arts Council and managed by Music Network.

About the Musicians
Cellist Lioba Petrie studied at Dublin’s Conservatory of Music and Drama and NUI Maynooth. She enjoys teaching, performing, composing for film, theatre and dance and is passionate about chamber music and collaboration. Lioba is the artistic Director of the popular music series Kaleidoscope Night, a monthly ‘genre blind mini-festival’ and is the co-founder and co-artistic director of Spike Cello Fest. Abigail Smith is a Dublin based musician and composer. She has released two albums of her own music Night Time Walking and Fall Into Silence. Fall Into Silence was written and released with funding from the Irish Arts Council. Abigail was awarded an Arts Council Music Bursary in 2022. She was the winner of the 2021 Finding a Voice and CMC Emerging Female Composer Composition Prize. She was awarded an Agility Award from the Irish Arts Council in 2021. She enjoys experimenting with new music technology and collaborating with others. She composes music for film, theatre and computer games. Abigail is a member of the Screen Composers Guild of Ireland. She performs her own music regularly and with the Astral String Quartet. Listen to Abigail's previous work.
