Beach Bye Laws
In order to make the beach area safe and pleasant for everybody, a number of restrictions are in place relating to litter, dogs, jet-skis and noise.
Following a period of extensive public consultation, Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council adopted new Beach Bye Laws in 2012.
Anyone operating a jet ski must hold a permit issued by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council. Jet skis may only be operated between the hours of 7.30 pm and 10 am and must stay 300 metres from the foreshore except when launching.
The new bye laws amend the existing regulations on the control of dogs on beaches. They are less restrictive on dog owners and recognise the needs of all beach users by achieving a balance between dog owners, the general public and swimmers.
Under the Beach Bye Laws 2012 the following restrictions in relation to dogs apply:
- Seapoint Beach - Bathing Area - NO dogs allowed all year round
- Sandycove Beach - Bathing Area - NO dogs allowed all year round. Outside Bathing Area - 10.00 am to 7.00 pm - dogs must be on a leash all year round
- Killiney Beach- Bathing Area - NO dogs allowed from 1st June to 15th September from 10.00 am to 7.00 pm. At all other times in the bathing area dogs are required to be on a leash.
The above restrictions do not apply to guide dogs for the blind
