Terra Incognita: New Works by Damien Flood
Municipal Gallery, dlr LexIcon
Sat 9 July – Sat 27 August 2016
For this exhibition painter, Damien Flood (Born 1979) created a new body of work that explored geographical elements of Dún Laoghaire and investigated the cultural histories of the landscape. This new work also responded to the modern town and what it means to the local community. This exhibition continued his interest in creating psycho-geographies of places, mixing verbal histories with personal experience.
The research for this show included interviews with local residents and retailers from the area as well as looking at Dún Laoghaire’s past, both historical and personal. The paintings captured a psychological portrait of the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown area and its people. They will gave the viewer a new way to view a place known so well.
Damien Flood was selected for this exhibition following an open call.
