Dún Laoghaire Anseo Artists Paint the Town

General News

Tomorrow, Tuesday 22nd June, Dún Laoghaire town will become an open air canvas for 14 established, up-and coming, and local artists. They will take to the streets armed with spray cans and paint their interpretation of the essence of the town, borrowing not just from its maritime heritage but reflecting on all the elements that make Dún Laoghaire a unique place. Bringing together the best in contemporary street art, we are very excited to launch the first project of its kind in dlr.

dlr has collaborated with business owners in the town who have enthusiastically offered up their walls for inclusion in the project. Meaning “here” in Irish, Dún Laoghaire Anseo is our way of letting everyone know, after everything that’s happened over the last year, that we are here. This project is happening at an exciting time for Dún Laoghaire with the development of a new plaza, Myrtle Square, just outside Bloomfields Shopping Centre and the creation of a new welcoming green space at St Michael’s Church.

An Cathaoirleach Lettie McCarthy said:

"I am looking forward to meeting the artists in the coming week and seeing their artwork come alive on the streets and laneways of Dún Laoghaire. Our hope is that this project will attract locals and visitors alike to the town and bring colour, energy and excitement to our Summer streets".
This project is funded by dlr, with the support of Creative Ireland and will run from 22- 28 June.
