Speaking of the launch An Cathaoirleach, Cllr Una Power, said:

"The Active School Travel initiative has resulted in significant interest from schools, parents, and children in increasing cycling and walking to school. Since schools across the County have reopened, it has been very encouraging to see parents and children using the Council’s recent cycling measures put in place over the summer period. To continue these efforts, the three pilot routes proposed are being designed to be a safe option linking a number of existing routes across our County. I invite everyone to consider the proposed routes and give us your thoughts and feedback on Phase 1. There will be an ongoing opportunity to give us feedback on the later phases of the project."

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Director of Infrastructure & Climate Change, Robert Burns, said:

"In undertaking the Active School Travel initiative, we have also carried out a wider analysis of the cycling and walking network across the County. This is being undertaken in partnership with Ramboll consultants. The proposed three pilot routes have also been informed by the ongoing submissions we have received from schools, parents, the general public and Councillors. In Phase 1 of this three phase initiative, we welcome your feedback on the proposed routes, which have been designed to link up and enhance the existing cycling and walking network. This will directly inform the piloting of the routes on the ground, which will take place from Monday 26^th October for a number of weeks."
