Glenamuck District Roads Scheme

Progress continued this year on the Glenamuck District Road Scheme which involves building one new 1.5km road (GDDR) running roughly parallel to the existing Glenamuck Road, and another new 1.8km road (GLDR) which runs roughly parallel to the existing Enniskerry Road. The project will also upgrade part of the existing Glenamuck Road and introduce a bus gate at its junction with the GLDR.

Works to Date

Works to date have been confined to the greenfield site areas, including tree felling, road foundation, installation of drains/ducts, culverts, retaining walls and a river bridge.  A new carpark for De La Salle Palmerston Rugby Club was completed in advance of the new rugby season and is now in use. This allowed works in the existing carpark to commence and a new retaining wall was recently completed there.  The beams for the new bridge over the Loughlinstown River were installed in late October 2024, followed by the deck pour in November 2024. The reinforced concrete works to the bridge are now complete.

January 2025 to June 2025

Works to date have mainly been restricted to the “greenfield” areas of the site and the New Year will see the commencement of works at various locations where the new works will interface more directly with the existing public road network.  Two of the initial areas will be at the R117 Enniskerry Road in the vicinity of De La Salle Palmerston Rugby Club and at the Golf Lane (Glenamuck Road South) Roundabout near Carrickmines Retail Park, from January to May 2025.  Intermittent traffic management will be erected at these areas to accommodate the tie-in of the GDDR to the existing roads. BAM will strive to minimise any impacts these works may have on the locality.  Once the GDDR is open, the existing Glenamuck Road will be closed to through vehicular traffic south of the Brambledown estate in order to enable the upgrade of the existing Glenamuck Road from Brambledown to the Golden Ball junction. Further information will issue in relation to this nearer the time.

Christmas Hours

The site will be closed for the Christmas holiday period and re-open in early January 2025. The Project team wish all our neighbours a happy Christmas and we look forward to progressing the building of the Glenamuck District Road Scheme for you in 2025.
