Have Your Say - Sandyford Civic Park Public Consultation

General News
Sandyford Civic Park

The policy to establish a civic park on the corner of Corrig Road and Carmanhall Road in the Sandyford Business District was first agreed in the 2009 Sandyford Urban Framework Plan. Since then the commitment to develop the civic park has remained steadfast, including with considerable support from the Sandyford Business District Business Improvement District (BID) Company (established and supported by all the businesses in the District). In 2025 Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council commissioned urban design consultants, Urban Agency, to design the civic park.

A civic park is a public park with uses for public and community events and activities in addition to the traditional greening and landscaping of an open space.

The context of high density neighbourhoods in a district with mixed uses including office, retail, health services and residential, informs the design of the park. In other words, there are a variety of local community and interest groups for whom such a park will have specific meaning.

The civic park will also be a development that contributes to the policies of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, specifically the dlr Green Infrastructure Plan and the dlr Climate Action Plan 2024 – 2029.

Leading up to the start of the design process, dlr and the Sandyford BID CLG have participated for the past two years in an EU Project, the IB Green Project. In this project 11 partners from 6 European countries are examining ways to increase green-blue infrastructure in large industrial and business parks in Europe, specifically to help the land owners and businesses in these parks to implement climate adaptation measures. As part of the project, the EU made funds available via the Interreg North-West Europe Territorial Cooperation Programme for the design of the civic park.

The site for the civic park is relatively small at 0.8 hectares. Therefore space is at a premium and should be used as efficiently as possible. We would like to know from the public how they see the use of this space and also, who should be the main beneficiaries for this space.

Your creative ideas for the use of the space and for features of the civic park are most welcome!

Have Your Say now on the Sandyford Civic Park Public Consultation, opened from the 25 of June 2025 and closing the 6 August 2025.
