Today, Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council placed the Draft Kiltiernan - Glenamuck Local Area Plan on display.

Significant growth and change have taken place in the Kiltiernan - Glenamuck area over the last ten years. This is the third Local Area Plan for the area, following on from the 2007 and 2013 Plans and sets out detailed planning policies and a framework to provide guidance for the future development of lands in the area.  There is capacity for an additional 1000 new homes in the area.

The vision for Kiltiernan – Glenamuck is of a connected and sustainable neighbourhood which enhances the existing green infrastructure, rural character, heritage and biodiversity and includes a vibrant and inclusive village centre.

Councillor Jim O’Leary, Cathaoirleach, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council said:

“I urge members of the public, particularly those living within the Local Area Plan boundary, to come along to one of the open days and also to make a submission and make sure their views feed into the important democratic Local Area Plan making process.”

This Draft Plan is required to identify and ensure that development and infrastructure will be provided and phased, including the provision of different uses and services that will serve the emerging community.

Support and provision for sustainable transport such as walking, cycling and use of public transport is key to managing future population increase in the Draft Plan lands.  An Area Based Transport Assessment or ABTA has informed the Draft Local Area Plan.

Frank Curran, Chief Executive, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council highlighted that:

“The Kiltiernan - Glenamuck area is one where considerable growth and development is currently taking place.  There are new homes and new roads all being delivered in accordance with the previous Local Area Plan.  The new Draft Local Area Plan sets out a framework for development on the remaining sites and also includes policies and objectives relating to provision of schools, parks and other supporting infrastructure.”

The Draft Plan includes objectives for provision of:

  • A mix of uses including a creche, purpose-built community centre, along with retail and commercial uses in the vibrant village centre which will include a village green fronting onto Enniskerry Road.
  • New open space and recreational lands and a new centrally located public park and active recreation space.
  • Schools.

The Draft Local Area Plan also includes detailed frameworks to guide future development proposals on key sites and will be on public display both online and in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Offices in Dundrum and Dún Laoghaire and will be available to view in all dlr libraries for a 6-week period until 21 March 2025.
