Introduction of 30 km/h Special Speed Limit in Residential Housing Estates and Local Residential Roads
We have amended our current Road Traffic Special Speed Limit Bye Laws to include the introduction of a 30km/h special speed limit in identified residential housing estates and local residential roads in accordance in with ‘Guidelines for setting and managing speed limits in Ireland’, published by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, March 2015. The 30km/h Road Traffic Special Speed Limit Bye-Law 2017 was adopted by Councillors at the February 13th County Council meeting.
A total of 742 housing estates and local residential roads within the county have been identified to be included in the 30km/h special speed limit. Please note this list can be downloaded from the options to the right of the screen
30km/h signage have been erected in each of the identified housing estates and local roads. The introduction of the new 30km/h speed zones aims to reduce vehicle speeds in housing estates and local residential roads so as to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and other vulnerable road users.
The implementation date for the new 30km/h speed limit in identified residential housing estates and local residential roads is the 4th July 2017.
