Introduction to dlr Architects

The Architects’ Department provide a broad range of services which enhance the quality of life for all in the County.  These services include supporting the construction of social housing projects, supporting our parks and libraries projects as well as delivering important urban design and public realm projects for our client departments. Examples can be found in Projects.

The Department is also responsible for dealing with Dangerous Structures and Dangerous Places in the County under the Local Government (Sanitary Services) Act.

The Conservation Division within the Department reports on planning applications relating to Protected Structures and dwellings in  Architectural Conservation Areas under Part IV of the Planning and Development Act 2000.  This Section also allocates grants to successful applicants under the Conservation Grants Scheme and Structures at Risk Scheme.

The Department also drives the Energy agenda in the County in a range of areas: pursuing energy grants for energy efficient dwellings, monitoring and improving the Council's own buildings for energy efficiency as well as engaging with stakeholders and Government Departments relating to Energy improvement. The Department leads in continually improving the Council’s own Energy Performance with the Energy Management System ISO 50001.

Other important functions provided by the Department include quantity surveying, procurement and providing technical advice to our client Departments.   Funding is also provided by the Architects’ Department to the Irish Architectural Foundation to support Open House – an annual event allowing members of the public to visit private residences, historic buildings and new landmarks for the Open House weekend in October annually.
