Operations Centre at Ballyogan, Co Dublin
The Operations Centre at Ballyogan is an ambitious project that is the first step in creating a new civic domain on the site of the former landfill at Ballyogan. It is an integral part of the larger design strategy for the area which seeks to reconnect and link the adjoining suburban areas back to the foothills of the Dublin Mountains. It was also the ambition to provide excellent facilities for staff to create an effective platform for delivering better service to the public.
The project comprises a three storey timber office building, a high bay utility warehouse, yards and enclosing gabion walls. It fulfills a highly demanding environmental and operational brief in tandem with first stage remediation of the former landfill site.
In this project the ordinary and routine which are so often overlooked in utilitarian buildings and projects have been transformed through careful design to create a unique environment for both staff and public. This project was done in conjunction with Bucholz McEvoy Architects.
This building was highly commended in the best public building and sustainability category in the RIAI Irish Architecture Awards 2013.
