Changes to the Housing Aid for Older People
From 1 January 2025, new rules from the EU will affect the Housing Aid for Older People Grant. The grant will no longer be payable towards the cost of purchasing new oil or gas boilers. This change follows the EU Directive (EU) 2024/1275.
However, the grant is still available for some heating needs. It can be used for the repair of existing oil or gas boilers by a qualified contractor. The grant can also be payable towards the purchase and installation of a second-hand fossil fuel boiler.
The grant will continue to support other parts of the heating system, such as new radiators, oil tanks, or pipework. These can be replaced or repaired, regardless of the type of boiler used. Additionally, grants are still available for electric or biomass heating systems, such as electric wall heaters or wood pellet stoves, when suitable for the applicant's needs.
