Creating with Communities, an ambitious new Arts Development Plan launched by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council launched its Arts Development Plan 2024-2030, Creating with Communities, at a special music event at the Gathering Grounds in Kilternan. The plan sets out a vision for a vibrant and inclusive cultural life for everyone in the county, with a strong emphasis on local artists, community engagement, and accessibility.
The plan focuses on several key areas to support and develop the arts across Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown. A core aim is to make arts experiences more accessible within local communities. The plan prioritises supporting ambitious arts projects that connect people and places. Given demand, it is also planned to make the best use of our cultural spaces while exploring opportunities for new arts spaces.
An Cathaoirleach, Cllr Jim O’Leary, said: “We envision a county where artists and creatives are deeply valued, where our communities are actively engaged in the arts, and where the arts enrich the lives of everyone in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, every day. Our new arts development plan underscores the value of the arts in enriching daily life and fostering a sense of place and pride.”
Creating with Communities is the result of extensive collaboration, led by the Council’s Culture Strategic Policy Committee and drafted by the Arts Office. The plan's development involved a comprehensive public engagement process, ensuring that the voices of local artists and communities shaped its direction. This included specific consultations with children and young people, so that their needs and aspirations are reflected in the county's arts provision.
Frank Curran, Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, added: “This plan demonstrates our commitment to fostering a vibrant and inclusive cultural life for everyone in our county. Creating with Communities is a bold vision, shaped by the voices of our local communities, artists, children, and young people. It's a roadmap to a county where the arts thrive in every corner, enriching lives and connecting us all.”
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is committed to working together with the local and national arts sector, community organisations, and partners to deliver Creating with Communities and achieve its ambitious vision for the arts in the county. Four versions of the plan are available, in English, Gaeilge, Easy Read and one specially for Children and Young People here
