dlr are delighted to announce once again that the prestigious Blue Flag status has been obtained by both Seapoint and Killiney beaches. An Taisce – National Trust for Ireland, announced this year’s awarded beaches and marinas at a presentation ceremony held yesterday in association with Galway City Council. The Blue Flag and Green Coast Awards 2024 were presented by Hildegarde Naughton TD, Government Chief Whip and Minister at the Department of Education.

Speaking after the confirmation of the awards, Councillor Denis O’Callaghan, Cathaoirleach, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council said:

“I am delighted to see that the excellent water quality standards at both Seapoint and Killiney have been recognised once again with the awarding of Blue Flag status in 2024. This reflects the continuing efforts made by dlr in managing our unique and diverse coastline and highlights the commitment of our Cleansing and Beaches section in maintaining these lofty standards.” 

Frank Curran, Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council commented:

“Our beaches are an integral part of the county and have long since enjoyed a positive reputation among locals and visitors alike. It is great to see both Seapoint and Killiney recognised once again with Blue Flags and I would like to thank all our staff that have worked so strenuously in achieving these awards.”   

Helen Smirnova, Senior Executive Engineer in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council added:

“Our Cleansing & Beaches team are proud that a Blue Flag status award has been granted for both Killiney and Seapoint. Both beaches are very popular with bathers and beach users throughout the summer, and it is a great achievement to have obtained the award again this year. We strive to maintain our bathing water sampling regime and to keep our scenic beaches litter free for the public to enjoy.”
