Open House Dublin 2024, Architecture Festival
This year, the Open House Dublin festival of architecture holds a mirror to Dublin, inviting you to debate and discuss all that you see, hear and feel. From the harbour to the home, from October 12–20, join in the tours, conversations, exhibitions, studio visits, workshops and more. There are opportunities to access our built environment and bring people together to talk, learn, listen, experience and enjoy architecture.
Locally, there is the prospect of developing outdoor play ideas at a workshop in the Samuel Beckett Community Centre or joining an architect-led tour of the Dún Laoghaire Baths, winner of the Architectural Review (AR) Public Awards 2024. You could take part in one of the Dún Laoghaire Harbour walks, the exhibition in the dlr LexIcon and join in the Dún Laoghaire Harbour discussion on 19 October. The ‘Bringing Back Homes - Creative and Sustainable Ways to Revitalise Old Buildings into a Home’ event will showcase four examples of vacant buildings that have been transformed into new homes.
Welcoming the announcement of the programme of events for Open House Dublin 2024, An Cathaoirleach, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Councillor Jim O’Leary commented:
“Open House Dublin is a calendar highlight in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown each October because of the wonderful opportunity it gives people, including children and families, to discover, explore and enjoy aspects of local architecture and the built environment in a fun and invigorating way. I encourage everyone to join in the wonderful line-up of free events that will be taking place next month.”
Frank Curran, Chief Executive, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, said:
“We’re looking forward to once again opening up our buildings and spaces for everyone for the Open House Dublin festival of architecture this October. Open House Dublin will not only connect people with new and historic buildings, public spaces and civic amenities in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, but importantly, it will also encourage people to think about the places they encounter as they go about their daily lives from different perspectives.”
Andrée Dargan, County Architect, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, said:
“Open House Dublin is an opportunity to look at current and future aspects of architecture and urban design. It provides an opportunity to find out about real and practical topics, such as ways to revitalise vacant buildings into new homes, sustainable building practices and making people-centred public spaces, all of which are relevant to the civic life and community development of your local area.”
