SportsAbility Day 2024 – Promoting Inclusive Sports & Activities in dlr
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Sports Partnership in collaboration with the SportsAbility Forum, are delighted to host a SportsAbility Information Day on May 26th in Gaelscoil Shliabh Rua, Ballyogan Road from 3pm-5pm. This free event welcomes people with disabilities, their families, disability services, and anyone interested in inclusive sports to learn about accessible sport and physical activity opportunities for all abilities in an informal fun environment.
An Cathaoirleach, Cllr Denis O’Callaghan said:
“I welcome the return of this event after COVID, it’s a chance for inclusive clubs in the County to showcase their great work directly to those that need the information and to help continue to grow our ‘activities for all’ ethos in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.”
The event will bring together representatives for inclusive sports including a range of local physical activity providers, local sports clubs, and National Governing Bodies. Attendees can avail of ‘come & try’ sessions in a range of different sports on the day, including archery, rugby, lawn bowls, rowing, tennis, GAA, table cricket and more. There will also be some spot prizes given out on the day.
Gwen O’Looney, Sports Inclusion Disability Officer for Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Sports Partnership commented:
“This is a perfect opportunity for people with a disability and other attendees to meet local clubs and groups face to face to help them decide if that activity is a fit for them and suits their needs. It’s essentially a one-stop-shop to view the range of different clubs available and a chance to have a go of some fun sports on the day.”
SportsAbility Day is one of the initiatives rolled out by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Sports Partnership under its Sports Inclusion Disability Programme, funded by Sport Ireland and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. The focus of this programme is to support and increase opportunities for people with a disability in the County to participate in sport and physical activity. Working with local partners such as clubs, community groups, schools, disability services, National Governing Bodies, and sports organisations, we provide a range of supports and training opportunities to promote participation and inclusion of all abilities.
