Supporting More Women for 2024 Local Elections in Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown

Following the success of the training events held last year, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council are delighted to announce the return of our training events in partnership with Women for Election to empower and support women to run in the 2024 Local Elections.

Councillor Denis O'Callaghan, Cathaoirleach, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council highlighted: 

"Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council are keen to continue the trend of gender balance of elected members to the Council. It is wonderful to see this training being provided to potential local election candidates for 2024."

The training is jointly funded by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and will focus on three Core topics:

  • Canvassing Strategies and Door-to-Door Dynamics (Online) 7th March
  • Maximising Social Media for Local Politicians (Online) 14th March
  • Managing Your Life while Managing Your Campaign (Online) 21st March

 

Frank Curran, Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council also reiterated his statement that:

"We are delighted to facilitate and host the upcoming training sessions, both online and in County Hall, and we hope that it will provide the information, support and networking required to encourage women to run for elections in 2024"

Brian Sheehan CEO of Women for Election said: 

“Women for Election are delighted to be working with Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council in training more women for election. Their specific ambition to diversify the women coming forward is a key value we share.  We believe that empowering women with the right skills and knowledge is not just about winning elections, but about shaping the future of our Government. Our training programs at Women for Election are designed to equip women with the confidence, expertise, and vision needed to lead effectively and bring about positive change in their communities and beyond.”
