Upgrade completed of Accessible Entrance at Killiney Hill Park
Today, Councillor Mary Hanafin, Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council officially opened the upgraded Killiney Hill Park Victorian accessible entrance. Locals and visitors alike have warmly welcomed the improved accessibility, safety and improved appearance of the park entrance.
Welcoming the entrance accessibility improvements, Councillor Mary Hanafin, Cathaoirleach, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council said:
"Killiney Hill Park is one of our county’s most unique public parks for both locals and tourists to enjoy, demonstrating our rich natural and built heritage. As a result of the new improvement works, the Park is now accessible to everyone, regardless of age or physical ability.”
The Victorian gated entrance leading into Killiney Hill Park is a beautiful example of a public park entrance of its time with wrought iron gates and railings and cut stone piers. The overarching aim of the works is to celebrate and showcase the Victorian entrance and create a new contemporary entrance that is accessible for all and is age-friendly in design
Frank Curran, Chief Executive, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, said:
"We are proud to promote our fantastic parks in Dún-Laoghaire-Rathdown, and how they are evolving to become as inclusive as possible, in terms of access and facilities on offer. We endeavour to raise the standards of the services and facilities we provide as a Local Authority and the improvement works at Killiney Hill Park is just one more example of these positive developments.”
A considered & suitable planting scheme now frames the Victorian gateway entrance and has enhanced the sylvan setting. Resurfacing, new seating and cargo bike parking has further improved the space outside the Tearooms. dlr Parks & Landscape Services undertook the upgrade works to ensure that the park entrance is accessible to all. The project is supported by the National Transport Authority (NTA) stimulus initiative which aims to support pedestrian and cyclist movement in towns and villages.
