What if the proposed filming requires an Official Road Closure?

The fees and charges do not cover the cost of advertising official Road Closures.

Road Closures must be advertised in recognized newspapers at least 1 month in advance. A public consultation process is required by law.

How do I apply for permission to film in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown?

To apply for permission to film in the County, you will need to fill out the official application form and return to info@dlrcoco.ie

Please put Film Permit in the subject heading.

Submit your application at least 10 working days in advance of filming; for a large production allow more time, particularly if it requires an official road closure.

You should note that permits for different locations are processed via a number of departments depending on the nature of your production.

During filming, all or any Bye Laws that are in place must be adhered to.

What are the Fees & charges for filming in dlr?

The current rates for filming/photography within the administrative area of the Council are as follows:

  • 1 hour €240 + Vat @21%
  • €120 + Vat @21% per hour thereafter
  • Daily rate: €800 + Vat @21%

Rates are higher for use of Cabinteely/ Marlay House & Dún Laoghaire Harbour, and need to be discussed directly with the relevant section in advance.

Non-commercial photography may be permitted free of charge, subject to permission from the relevant Department.

What if I am a registered college student?

Students from an accredited College requesting to film for projects etc., must request permission in writing and submit a copy of the Colleges Public Liability Insurance indemnifying Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council against any claims, in the amount of €6.5 million. There shall be no charge for actual filming.

What about fees for Charities?

Registered Charities are exempt from all fees.
